Jenna Cole Photography-Dallas, TX bio picture

Welcome to Jenna Cole!

Investing in a camera and launching this business has given me the
chance to merge the two activities I love most, photography and blogging. After spending several months taking still life photos for my other blogging endeavors (That Bride, Weddingbee, and That Wife) I realized that I wanted to start spending time with people. I wanted to spend my days taking pictures of people that helped them to see how beautiful they are.

I want to capture the moments in your life as they are happening, as they would happen even if I wasn't there with you. When the light falls just right, and the boy and the girl look at each other just so, magic happens. I want to be there for that moment, composing an image that tells a story, your story.

You can read more about my personal life at That Wife, add me on Twitter, or find me on Facebook. Thank you for visiting and for commenting (I read them all and they make my day!).

As I prepare for the next big event in my life (the birth of my baby in April!), I'm going to be refocusing my business and sacling back on the number and type of sessions I am accepting. I'll be on maternity leave beginning in March and lasting through May. Please contact me if you have any questions!

Wedding: Lynn and Jonathan Tea Ceremony

Lynn and Jon’s tea ceremony was to be the first I would ever have the privilege of attending and I could not have guessed what a beautiful and emotional time it would be. A tea ceremony is more than a rite of passage. It is a time when two families come together to pledge their support for the couple. Respect, love, and admiration were present, along with a roasted pig and cups of tea infused with lotus seeds and red dates.

The groom approaches the house, bearing gifts wrapped in red. The color red symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off evil spirits

THAT SHOT!

This portrait of Lynn’ grandma was so incredibly gorgeous, straight out of the camera. Look at her skin! Oh how lucky I would be to have skin like that at her age.

During all of this, the bride waits nervously in another room, waiting for someone to come tell her it is time.

While the groom waits anxiously for the bride. :)

As Lynn’s father stepped forward and began to welcome everyone present, he was overcome with emotion. This is a father who loves his daughter, very, very much.

Before the bride is presented, the gifts from the groom are unwrapped and explained to the crowd.

This pig was delish! I didn’t like the crunchy parts that they had me try though.

Finally it was time for the bride to emerge. I absolutely adore these images. Look at the way her face lights up the moment she spots Jonathan!

Lynn is one of those lucky girls that has the ability to look gorgeous even when they are crying. She was so sweet and emotional throughout the ceremony.

IMG_5761 copy

My second favorite moment of the day was when Lynn’s father spoke directly to Jon’s father and told him that they were as one family now. They both pledged to honor and support the new couple.

IMG_5772 copy

My favorite moment (I’m tearing up as I type this!), was when the mothers turned to each other and hugged. They said “We are family now, we are like sisters.”

IMG_5789 copy

Lynn and Jon stole sweet glances at each other throughout.

Then it was time for the bride to be presented with her jewelry.

First from the groom’s mother.

And then some beautiful pieces from her own mother.

IMG_5874 copy

Definitely my third favorite moment of the day, as mother and daughter express their love for each other for a look, the soon-to-be husband struggles to do up her necklace for her. The juxtaposition made me laugh.

Then it was time for the tea!

IMG_5906 copy

The service started with Jonathan’s parents, and then moved on to the rest of his honored relatives.

Red envelopes were exchanged.

IMG_5929 copy

Exchanging the red envelopes and a cup of hot tea with so many people involved can be tricky business!

IMG_5946 copy

Tea service ended with the bride’s parents, who promptly announced that it was time to eat!

What a spread they had!

Lynn’s family was incredibly gracious and insisted that I sit down for a few minutes and get something to eat. You definitely don’t have to tell me something like that twice!

Jon and his sister.

IMG_6049 copy

Lynn is almost always laughing. I just love her.

Father and daughter.

IMG_6073 copy

Lynn’s father is retired and has a really gorgeous atrium outside. Guests were so busy wandering through looking at all of the plants and flowers that they had to be reminded to head in and fill up their plates. :)

IMG_6175 copy

Lynn’s mother was a lovely hostess, and took the time to show her guests around the garden.

]IMG_6084 copy

Right before the rain came I stole Lynn and Jon away for a few moments to do some quick couple portraits.

IMG_6193 copy

These two can be found laughing together approximately 75% of the time.

The epitome of sweetness.

Coming soon: The Catholic ceremony (which technically happened before the BBQ and tea ceremony, but when you are blogging you can change the order of events if you please. :) )

April 9, 2009 - 7:04 pm Sabrina - I love the tradition so many of those pictures have. They feel like some treasured pieces kept in a locked box that are just resurfaced to be shown off to a new person. There's this feel to them that they were taken at a pivotal point in history especially when the bride was having her jewelry added and the father's emotional outburst. I'm sure I'm not making any sense but I really love the gravity added to them.

April 9, 2009 - 8:30 pm Zoe - The first picture of the house is gorgeous! I love all the shades of red from the brick and greens from the foliage. :D

April 9, 2009 - 8:33 pm Yelena R. - Jenna I absolutely love the pictures of Lynn with her mother and her mother in law. You captured the emotion so well. I can also see that you're definitely experimenting with editing. That's such a great idea!

April 9, 2009 - 8:43 pm Sheila - Beautiful work, Jenna.

April 9, 2009 - 8:57 pm honeymyheart - such lovely photos. that photo of lynn's grandma is my favorite :)

This is why I love photography those moments are so special and now they can go back to that moment that day and feel it all over again! I got all teary eyed when I saw the picture of her dad so amazing, a fathers love!

April 9, 2009 - 10:11 pm CaitStClair - Lynn is gorgeous! And I love how you captured her expressions! The families must be thrilled.

April 9, 2009 - 11:13 pm Shell - I love the expressions on the faces at the beginning. Tears make me have tears too. And to see the moms accepting each other! Beautiful images Jenna!

April 10, 2009 - 4:52 am Rebecca - beautiful work! beautiful beautiful!!! I can't wait to sit down with you!

April 10, 2009 - 4:32 pm Tasha - I love seeing the different culture. I'm not the biggest fan of pink, but it is slowly growing on me, and I love her dress! Jenna you did an awesome job capturing what I would consider to be some very important and emotional moments.

April 10, 2009 - 7:20 pm Emily - You've captured so much raw emotion within these pictures...they look great!!

April 10, 2009 - 7:26 pm Last Forty Percent - These photos tell a great story. I especially love the ones where they are choking up together. Very sweet! - Brianna

April 12, 2009 - 4:40 am Janie - jenna, these pictures are gorgeous--as usual! i'm just wondering: what lens do you use the most on a shoot?

April 13, 2009 - 2:27 am Jenna - Janie-I use a 50mm 1.4 90% of hte time because that is all I have (except the crappy kit lens that came with the camera). And if you're wondering, the 1.4 is definitely worth the extra $$$ over the 1.8.

April 13, 2009 - 11:31 pm Korey - Beautiful! What gorgeous subjects. I love that the pictures are oozing with emotion, and I think that photographers capture this best when they care, like you do. I love that you got choked up just thinking about that moment between the moms. When you care about your subjects, it comes through in the pictures! Good job!!
