Jenna Cole Photography-Dallas, TX bio picture

Welcome to Jenna Cole!

Investing in a camera and launching this business has given me the
chance to merge the two activities I love most, photography and blogging. After spending several months taking still life photos for my other blogging endeavors (That Bride, Weddingbee, and That Wife) I realized that I wanted to start spending time with people. I wanted to spend my days taking pictures of people that helped them to see how beautiful they are.

I want to capture the moments in your life as they are happening, as they would happen even if I wasn't there with you. When the light falls just right, and the boy and the girl look at each other just so, magic happens. I want to be there for that moment, composing an image that tells a story, your story.

You can read more about my personal life at That Wife, add me on Twitter, or find me on Facebook. Thank you for visiting and for commenting (I read them all and they make my day!).

As I prepare for the next big event in my life (the birth of my baby in April!), I'm going to be refocusing my business and sacling back on the number and type of sessions I am accepting. I'll be on maternity leave beginning in March and lasting through May. Please contact me if you have any questions!

Engagement: Josie + Florian

Two weeks after I was in Washington DC, I flew up to New York for a Weddingbee party. Why am I such a lucky girl, able to fly all over the country? My husband thought it was a great idea for me to go *if* I could fund my trip with photography sessions booked for the time I was there. I agreed with these conditions, begged the internet for sessions (you might remember a post on here where I noted my travel dates and asked for referrals!), and booked my ticket!

I’m a little farm girl from central Washington so the entire adventure was rather humorous. I relied 100% on my beloved iphone to get me all over town, and tried my best to avoid the scary parts of town when I was carrying around my camera equipment. I had to make the most of my time because I was only there for a few days, so when I showed up on Friday night I was really bummed at the thought of canceling. Luckily Josie and Florian were more than willing to play in the bad weather, and we found some beautiful spots down around the DUMBO area. They brought a big pink umbrella, some creative ideas for poses, and were more than willing to throw the umbrella out of the way for a few shots and really get into things. The sessions was short because I wound up getting a leeeeeetttle bit lost on the way there, but we ended up getting some beautiful stuff nonetheless!

All credit for this shot goes to Josie, I adore it and have used it several places already. It’s so nice when clients offer up suggestions, letting me focus on getting the best composition/exposure I can instead of worrying about posing them creatively.

I was worried this one would come out cheesy, but I kind of like the “hands in each other’s pockets” pose. What do you think?

The rain in their hair looks a bit like frost, doesn’t it? Josie is awesome for letting me put her out in the rain with no cover for a few shots. I would have been holding my hands above my head trying to protect my hair the whole time. :)

The light disappeared all too quickly and so we were forced to get creative for the last few shots working with slow shutter speeds and very steady hands in the near dark.

It’s always fun to see random effects like this being produced in-camera. A big thank you to these two for throwing their umbrella and dashing out into the middle of a busy Brooklyn street in an attempt to get the shots above and the shot below.

Enjoy planning your wedding you two. And don’t worry, your secret is safe with me! :)

Best,

Jenna

Teaser: 14 Sessions Waiting in the Wings!

The clients waiting to see these photos know it, but the rest of you might not… I’m months behind in my blogging! The last few sessions I posted were from August and I’m just now moving into September. I’m slowing things down as I prepare for baby to come so I’ll catch up eventually but I can’t seem to make myself skip over anyone. Everyone deserves their time in the spotlight on Jenna Cole, you know?

So I’ll keep making my way through sessions, one post at a time. There are just so many awesome photos coming up that I thought I’d throw together a quick teaser post with some of my favs.

I have several engagement sessions, all really unique and wonderful in their own way…

And even some kids/families! I had a few sessions booked before I posted about cutting them out of my portfolio, but these sessions were so fantastic I think I’m convinced that toddlers are too cute to be eliminated from my repertoire completely…

And last but not least, a few “gift” sessions, given to our closest friends. I’ve been pouring all of my money into this photography business which means not a lot of money left over for Christmas gifts. So we chose to gift photos this year! I’ve done 2 of the 3 sessions we have planned and the results have been fabulous thus far. We’re lucky to be friends with such beautiful people! :)

So much more to come!

Urban Seniors Workshop

A few weeks ago I attended a workshop with Dallas photographer Leslie Katz of Urban Photography which focused on high school senior photography. I fell in love with a whole new type of photography and I’m hoping to break into the Dallas high school senior market this year and do a few sessions before the baby comes. If you know any seniors in Dallas who might find my style appealing, please send them my way!

Definitely one of my best shots of all time. And of course it was taken of the girl who least liked having her photo taken, Leslie Katz’s daughter. :)
