Just before the start of 2010 I attended a workshop held by Ben Q Photography of Dallas, where I was able to experience shooting in a studio style setup and learning a bit more about working with flash. I’ve had these photos sitting edited on computer for months now, but I wanted to save them for my maternity leave when I knew I wouldn’t have new work to show you due to the new little one that takes up almost all of my time.
They had a really fantastic setup filled with all sorts of wintery vintage themed items.

The model we were working with that day was BenQ’s wife, ChrysQ, also of ChrysQ’s Luxe Slipcovers. Chrys is a really fantastic model, very confident in front of the camera and full of unique pose ideas, plus her slipcovers are just as gorgeous in person as they are in the photographs. I loved them so much I ended up ordering a custom one for my own wedding album!

The images above were shot with a wide aperture, no flash, but I did get a chance to hook up my camera to Ben’s lighting and pose Chrys for a few shots using the studio setup. I was pretty proud of the pose I came up with when it was my turn to work with her!

We ended our shooting time outdoors, where we learned a few really interesting tricks that I hope to be able to incorporate into my own shooting style in the future. I made a New Years Resolution this year to develop a “concept shoot” and execute it, and this workshop definitely gave me a few ideas for that. Thanks to Ben and Chrys for being so fabulous and hosting such a great workshop.

I’ve reached the point in my pregnancy where the end is in sight, and I’ll have a baby in my arms in no more than 20 days, no matter what. This past week I’ve realized how much I miss photography, working to show my clients how beautiful they are, and so I went for a little drive in hopes of finding some new shoot locations. On my drive I realized that the bluebonnets are finally out, and that I have a pretty large patch blooming really close to my apartment!

Sitting around waiting for baby also has me looking around our apartment for things to photograph just for fun. This afternoon I decided to take our dyed eggs out of the fridge and give them a little mini photo shoot on the sheepskin blanket I bought for baby at Ikea.

These eggs are almost gone already! Egg salad sandwiches are my favorite part of this time of year.

Are we team pink or team blue? I’ll let you know as soon as we find out!

Don’t worry, this blog won’t be dying off anytime soon. I have a few workshop and portrait session photos waiting in the wings that I’ve saved specifically for my maternity leave. And of course I’ll have more than a few photos of baby to show you!
How is it possible for someone who loves blogging as much as I do to get so far behind in posting my pretty pictures? When frustration about my latency starts to kick in, I just look at pictures of this little mini shoot I did with a little girl from my Church sitting in the bluebonnets of Texas.

Don’t you feel more relaxed? I do. Another set of bright and colorful Deep Ellum engagement photos to come soon!
